The short version: we open every casino from a New Zealand connection, trace it to its operating company and licence number, read its bonus and withdrawal terms end to end, and score it on six weighted categories. We do not open accounts or place bets - reviews are built from published terms and publicly available information, and we say so plainly.
The six checks
1. Licence and operator tracing
We start at the footer: the operating company and licence number a casino publishes about itself. That number is checked against the regulator's records and against the other brands it appears under, which is how we build maps of operator families - sister casinos share terms and payout behaviour, good and bad. Casinos that publish nothing get told so in their review, and their trust score carries the penalty. Regulators are not equal: Gibraltar and Alderney carry more enforcement weight in our scores than lighter-touch registries, and the review explains the difference each time.
2. Terms read end to end
Every bonus figure, wagering multiplier, win cap, max-bet clause, expiry window and payment-eligibility rule we publish comes from the casino's own terms documents, read in full. Where an advertised offer differs from the published one - a channel-exclusive "$1 for 40 spins" that the casino's own site does not honour - we list what the operator publishes and flag the discrepancy.
3. Payout policy audit
A casino is judged at cashout, so we read the withdrawal side hardest: published processing windows, daily and weekly limits, fees, pending holds and which payment routes can actually receive money. We check library size and provider quality lobby by lobby, and we weight transparency: casinos that surface game RTPs (some print live RTP on every tile) score better than casinos that bury the numbers, because visible maths is a player protection. 5. NZ access verification
Every casino is opened from a New Zealand connection before it earns a listing - no geo-blocked recommendations, no assumptions. We also check NZD support, NZ-relevant payment rails and localisation quality, and we flag lapses (like a EUR banner on an NZ page) when we find them.
6. Honest weaknesses
Every casino we list has at least one real weakness, stated plainly: a 48-hour reversible hold, a 70x wagering requirement, a missing licence footer. If we cannot find a weakness, we have not finished the review. A list of flawless casinos is about its commissions, not the casinos.
How the score is built
Each review scores five categories - trust and licence, pokies and games, bonus value, payout speed, and NZ experience - and the overall rating weighs them with trust and payout speed counting most. The same scorecard appears in every review, and the category bars on our comparison pages are those exact numbers, never rounded up for a better-paying casino. Topic pages re-rank the same casinos by a single criterion (deposit floor, payout policy, bonus terms), always with a note explaining how that ranking differs from the overall one.
What we do not do
We do not open player accounts, deposit money or place bets, and we never pretend otherwise - no invented testing stories, no fabricated player counts, no unaudited win-rate percentages. We do not take payment for placements, and operators cannot buy their way onto a page or up a ranking. Where our information comes from published terms, the reviews say "based on published terms" - and when readers report experiences that contradict the paperwork, we investigate and update.
How pages stay current
